Safety Message

Hello Andover Little League community,

As you are aware, Andover Little League is restarting it's baseball activities in the coming weeks. We are all extremely excited to get back on the fields and would like to share with you some of the plans we have in place with regard to ensuring player safety in the midst of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Andover Little League will following guidelines set forth by Governor Baker for Phase 2 and Phase 3 activities. Please refer to Reopening Massachusetts as these regulations are fluid and are subject change or modification. If the town of Andover has additional protocols not included in the Massachusetts plan, those will be followed as well.

With regard to game play, Andover Little League will be adhering to the following protocols:

1. The dugouts will be professionally sanitized at regular intervals in accordance with the town of Andover Health Department policy

2. Each team will use its own baseballs - these will not be comingled.

3. No seeds, gum, or spitting in the dugouts

4. All players will have their own water bottle clearly marked with his/her name. These will be provided by the player and cannot be shared.

5. No more than 3 players in the dugout when at bat. The remaining players will line up outside the fence as they wait for their turn at bat. (This may change as Phase III guidelines may potentially be less restrictive).

6. The number of coaches in the dugout will be limited and will wear masks when social distancing is not possible.

7. Spectators will also need to wear face coverings when social distancing is not possible (This also may change as Phase III guidelines may potentially be less restrictive)

There have been many questions so far regarding the use of masks by players. At this time, per regulations set forth by Governor Baker's office, we are not requiring players to wear masks. We are asking the players to use common sense and observe social distancing when possible. In addition, we have been advised by members of the medical community of the risks of wearing face coverings while exercising during periods of intense heat and humidity.

The Andover Little League Board of Directors understands the trepidation that families my feel in getting back on the field. If you feel the risk is simply too great, please do not feel pressured to register again. There is nothing more important to us than your player•s safety. Please feel free to reach out to me or Ryan Murphy should you have any further questions or concerns.

Best,

Rick Santagati
