2020 Season Update

Less than 24 hours ago Little League International cancelled their World Series and all tournament play for the 2020 season. I quote: “Due to the ongoing impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, Little League International has made the difficult and disappointing decision to cancel its World Series and Region Tournaments for first time in organization history.”

Andover Little League Board understands the decision. We also understand how disappointed the 12-year-olds must be. The board will work with Governor Baker’s office and The Town of Andover to find a way to have a baseball season.

Although we are not sure when the season will be held, it will be held if it is at all possible to do so. While we must listen to the Governor’s guidance on this matter, we also must follow our common sense and watch carefully the COVID-19 numbers in Andover.

Governor Baker ordered thousands of Massachusetts businesses to remain closed and urged people to remain home until at least ‪May 18, extending by two weeks directives designed to stop the spread of COVID-19.

As a board, we will be looking at possible ways to have a Little League season ‪after May 18th.
