In memory of
Mr. Laurence J. "Larry" Marocco
, a longtime resident of Andover and beloved husband of Christine E. (Derby) Marocco, passed away at the Academy Manor Nursing Center in Andover on Monday morning, August 26, 2019. He was 88 years old.
Born in Springfield, Massachusetts, on November 10, 1930, he was the beloved son of the late Girolamo V. and Lena (Cotino) Marocco. Larry was a US Army veteran of the Korean War serving in 330th Communication Reconnaissance Company. In civilian life, Mr. Marocco worked as an Industrial Engineer, retiring from Lucent Technologies in 1996 after 40 years of service. He was graduate of Punchard High class of 1948, Merrimack College class of 1953 and Lowell Technical Institute. In spare time, Larry enjoyed cooking, traveling and photography and spending time with his family and many friends. He also loved to follow the Boston's sport teams and had served as Secretary for the Andover Little League for more than 30 years. He will be dearly missed.
Besides his beloved wife, Christine, with whom he celebrated 60 years of marriage on July 11, 2019 he is survived by his loving children; Elizabeth C. and her husband Robert M. Lyons of Salem, New Hampshire, Mary Kate and her husband Darren E. Eisenhaur of Newton, New Hampshire, Laurence J., Jr. and his wife Donna L. Marocco of Andover, John J. Marocco and his wife Kimberly J. Perry of Andover and James T. and his wife Katherine L. Marocco of Swampscott, sister-in-law; Mary Alice Marocco of North Andover, grandchildren; Bobby and Christine Lyons, Austin and Anna Marocco, Robert and A. Scott Perry and Megan and Molly Marocco and many nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends. Larry was also the brother of the late John R. Marocco.
The family would like to thank everyone at Academy Manor for the exceptional and compassionate care provided to Larry.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Augustine Church, 43 Essex Street, Andover on Thursday, August 29, 2019, at 11 AM. Relatives and friends are most welcome to attend. Visitation will be held in St. Augustine Church on Thursday, prior to the mass, from 9 to 10:45 AM. Interment will be held in the Spring Grove Cemetery in Andover. Christine E. (Derby) Marocco
, a long-time resident of Andover and beloved wife of the late Laurence J. Marocco, passed away at the Lahey Hospital & Medical Center in Burlington on Sunday, September 15, 2019, following a brief illness. She was 87 years old.
Born in Lawrence, Massachusetts, on July 7, 1932, she was the only daughter of the late Thomas H. and Helen (Moran) Derby. Christine was a graduate of Lawrence High School Class of 1950 and Lowell State Teachers College, Class of 1954. She was an elementary school teacher for several years beginning in New Britain, CT, and then at Central Elementary School in Andover before raising her family. In her spare time, Christine enjoyed reading, traveling, doing word puzzles, sewing, a skill she passed on to her granddaughters, watching the Red Sox and Patriots, volunteering at St. Augustine’s Church, at Neighbors in Need and many other local shelters. Christine was an active member of both her high school and college reunion committees; and helped in the planning for several decades. Most of all Christine cherished her family and friends. She will be dearly missed and remembered for her caring heart and selfless giving.
Christine was the loving mother of Elizabeth and her husband Robert Lyons of Salem, New Hampshire, Mary Kate and her husband Darren Eisenhaur of Newton, New Hampshire, Laurence, Jr. and his wife Donna Marocco of Andover, John Marocco and his wife Kimberly Perry of Andover and James and his wife Katherine Marocco of Swampscott, sister-in-law; Mary Alice Marocco of North Andover, grandchildren; Bobby and Christine Lyons, Austin and Anna Marocco, Robert and A. Scott Perry and Megan and Molly Marocco and many nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends. She was also the sister of the late Thomas H. Derby, Jr., James H. Derby, Francis A. Derby and Paul J. Derby.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Augustine Church, 43 Essex Street, Andover on Friday, September 20, 2019, at 10:30 AM. Relatives and friends are most welcome to attend. Calling hours will be held in the Burke-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 390 North Main Street, Andover on Thursday, September 19, 2019, from 4 to 8 PM. Interment will be held in the Spring Grove Cemetery in Andover. As Christine requested, please omit flowers.
